Get Started With ORCA
This page will guide you through the steps you need to take to use ORCA to support your decision-making process regarding which intervention(s) to implement.
1. Do you have a basic understanding of ORCA?
-
Let’s help you get to a yes!
You can learn more about the basics of ORCA right here.
-
Fantastic! Continue to step #2.
2. Have you identified the problem(s) that you think interventions can help you solve?
-
Let’s help you get to a yes.
It is easy to skip to the “how” you want to affect change. For example, “We should do X because it will help us achieve Y.” It is also easy to mistake the “how” for the “why.” The problem you are trying to solve is why you are selecting interventions.
Consider these 4 steps:
1) Reflect on why you areconsidering adopting new interventions.
2) Write a problem statement
3) Review any constraints in your problem statement and ask yourself a few questions
4) Align your problem statement with your group
This resource provides some tips for completing these steps to identify a clear objective, or goal, to solve your identified problem (link to pdf).
-
Excellent! Continue to step #3.
3. Do you know what features of an intervention are important to you?
-
Let’s help you get to a yes.
You can use ORCA to help you determine what features of an intervention are important to you. This PDF will show you the list of features that ORCA allows you to rank.
Click here (r-shiny link) to use the ORCA tool to rank these features.
ORCA gives you results that help you identify which features are important to multiple people in your group or other groups whose perspectives you care about.
Your results can guide what information to collect on interventions you are considering.
If members of your group rank intervention features very differently:
1) discuss why this might be
2) re-rank features in the tool until you feel aligned enough to move on to rating interventions
3) collect information on interventions with those features (Step 4!)
-
Wonderful! This PDF will show you the list of features that ORCA allows you to rank. If there is a feature that is important to you that is not on this list please contact us at CoDAteam@chestnut.org so we can improve our tool overtime.
Then continue to step #4.
4. Have you identified interventions for your group to decide between, and do you have information about the features of those interventions that are important to you?
